How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and runs fine when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

3. Fuel Pump
